Taking your baby for their first swim is an exciting experience, but you might also feel a little bit nervous. We've put together our top tips to support you and your little one to have a fun time in the water.

#1 Enrol in a swimming class specific to your babies
Ensuring you enrol your little on in a class that is age appropriate, for example for infants is important and these classes typically focus on bonding, water safety and getting comfortable in the water rather than any formal swimming technique.

#3 Dress appropriately
Choose a swimsuit that is suitable for the temperature. Consider if your baby will be swimming indoors or outdoors. Are they swimming in a heated pool. Is it summer or winter? Will the air be cold when they are out of the water. Ensure if swimming outdoors to factor in sun protection.
#4 Arrive early to your babies swimming lesson
Arriving early allows you time to dress your baby, remain calm and positive and for them to acclimate to their surrounds. Maintaining a calm, positive nature will support your baby in feeling comfortable.
#5 Listen carefully to the instructor
Pay attention and listen to the swimming instructor's cues and guidance. They will provide techniques and exercises designed specifically your baby's age.
#6 Incorporate play and use toys and games
Floating toys can encourage babies to float, kick and splash and encourage playfulness and fun in the water.
